Virginia Is For Farm Lovers: Virginia Urban Agriculture Summit to be held in Richmond on Oct. 22-23

August 31, 2017

If you're interested in learning about urban farming and looking for a cool road trip idea you can attend the third annual Virginia Urban Agriculture Summit from Oct. 22-23 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Richmond.

This farmtastic event will feature keynote speakers and panelists who will address the current state and future of urban farming operations in the United States. The event includes visits to several Virginia farms, including the Tricycle Gardens in Richmond which grows 40,000 ponds of fresh, organic produce on its ½-acre inner city farm.

Guest speakers at the summit include Ben Flanner of Brooklyn Grange Farm in Brooklyn, New York, which was one of the first places we put on the United States of Green map. It is a must see place when you are in NYC.

                                       Bundoran Farm, Charlottesville, Virginia

United States of Green is headed to Virginia after Columbus Day in October. One of our stops is Richmond, where we plan to check out the urban ag happenings at Tricycle Gardens. Virginia is at the cutting edge of our sustainable food future, with local agriculture and aquaculture flourishing across the state. Virginia ranks 9th in U.S. in local foods sales and I am looking forward to eating lots of that freshly harvested bounty when we get there next month.

In Virginia, we also hope we can check out the gorgeous, conservation-based community, Bundoran Farm, which is outside of Charlottesville. Located in the pristine piedmont hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Bundoran is a working farm consisting of 2,300 acres of meadows, forests, orchards, lakes and streams, and is a preservation development of residential property where 90% of the landscape is protected.

See you soon Virginia!
